Please read this before posting advice.

I have an intel 1,1 Macbook running Tiger. The built in cd/dvd drive is dead, so I am using an external cd drive.

I have been trying to install Ubuntu 9.10 for some time now. I have looked at general Mac and Ubuntu forums for information on installing and none of the approaches offered have worked.

I imagine you will refer me to this: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/MacBook1-1 However this redirects to general macbook guidlines for installation: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/MactelSupportTeam/AppleIntelInstallation and the advice here DOES NOT WORK. First of all, regardless of whether or not I hold C, ctrl, or option+command+shift+ delete, on start up, my computer only recognizes the regular mac HD or simply puts up a question mark. The same happens when I use disk utility to tell my computer to boot from the cd drive. (The disk itself is recognized as Ubuntu once my computer actually starts up, and I've tried using different copies of the Ubuntu cd).

Additionally, I cannot run Bootcamp, and I'm pretty sure I can't run rEFIt on my outdated OS.

Any ideas on how to get my computer to recognize/ boot off of the Ubuntu cd?

I am a Mac guy too. Did you ever get this to work? It sounds good and I need it for my Unix class. So I am trying to install it as well. Is there any better way to do this. I have Snow Leopard, and a intel Mac.
