update to 9.04

I have been using Ubuntu for over a year . For a while the update window has been cueing me to update to 9.04 . When I do update , will I lose all files and programs currently on my computer , or will I be given the choice to keep some ? Is there a guide someplace as to what will happen ? Thanks.

Usually when upgrading to another version your files and programs are kept. More than likely the only thing it will not keep are lib file from certain program yet it may or may not need for the newer version. You should be fine. What version are you currently using?
