That's a sweet laptop :D
I don't really have a dream computer, I like to build mine, though i7 would surely be the processor I'd choose.

I can't build my own. I've grounded myself plenty of times but, I've always managed to fry my sound/video cards by just replacing the RAM, etc.

I'm also very shaky.

TheLions, nice choice! For me it would have to be: http://www.nvidia.com/object/personal_supercomputing.html
Of course I would overclock it, and give it liquid cooling...

+1 for tesla.

I must say I am very satisfied with my rig. I have built it myself w/o any issue. E-V-E-R-Y-T-H-I-N-G worked out of the box.

More that a dream computer, I dream of setting up an electronic control centre for the whole house.
The first step will probably be managing my hydroponic plants completely from my computer...
I am working on it, and it looks quite promising.

That's a very nice laptop psumi. But I would go for a desktop since I already have a laptop. But it would have about the same specs with that laptop except for the graphics card (dual GTX 295 with 1,8gb ddr5 vram using sli would be better). :D

That Tesla sounds like a good idea.

It's good to see that a lot of people hope to get a dream computer for something other than gaming. I on the other hand... :D

@Psumi: My laptop is similar to yours, but I have an intel I945 graphics card (which is worse) and have upgraded the ram to 1gb ddr2. Since all basic things (internet, a movie, office stuff etc) run just fine I'm thinking that if I get a new computer a desktop one would be a better idea. Just keep thinking 26'' monitor or bigger ;)

Nothing like a good ol' system for those late night BBS runs :)

But seriously with Linux running well on about any recent hardware, I don't know if it's that big of a deal to have the 'latest and greatest' hardware anymore. I've seen it blaze on 8+ year old hardware!

Add flash and say that again. because I want flash so that I can watch homestarrunner.

Silent, almost weightless, foldable from credit card size out to a 30 inch display (and anywhere in-between), no moving parts, waterproof, shockproof, petabytes of storage, wifi 3g 4g LTE wimax (and the rest), no battery (draws enough energy from it's environment to be on permanently), comfortable to type on, and can plug directly into the brain-hardware interface socket in my skull ;)

If it weren't for flash, and gaming, I wouldn't mind using a 10 year old computer.

Unless I can start making up stuff, here it is-

2 x Opteron 2425 HE (6 cores, 3MB L2 + 6MB L3 per-CPU. Eat that, Intel i7)
16GB DDR2 800 ECC
1 x 1TB SSD
4TB RAID 6 (or maybe RAID 05/50)
GTX260
Some other minor bits and pieces.

1 x 2TB ESATA for backups.

I'd think about water cooling, but I dont think I need 2 watercooled boxxen. A HyperOS 64GB DDR HDD (or a gigabyte iRam), would be nice, but I dont want to have to deal with the external DC adapter.

Delicious, but priced higher than a DELL with Windows 7 (yuck). I really need to open up a Linux computer shop that doesn't mark things up so much so that it's actually more affordable to buy Linux preinstalled on the hardware.

My lust for new hardware was satiated by most recent build just 6 months ago. I could use a laptop though. So ... laptop.

AMD Black Edition Processor, nVidia Tesla cards x2, 250GB Solid state harddrive, 24" Samsung monitors x2, Blu-Ray rw drive, 8GB ram.

Water Cooling on processor, the Tesla cards and RAM. Overclock all of them.

Server to keep everything on.

Media computer connected to TV. Would be on of those tiny Atom PC's.

A Tablet PC to fill the place of a Netbook, similar to the iPad but with USB ports, slightly wider screen and HDMI out. Definitely want it to use a ARM chip.

Phone that offers support to connect to all of this where ever I am.

Ideally I'd be running Ubuntu or a Arch on all the computers but would realistically only be able to run it on the media pc, server and tablet, if any linux distributions support touch.
The phone would obviously be running android.

Would network this over the house with those plugs that turn the mains into a network.

One that fricking works and runs a decent speed. Sadly, I've yet to use one that fits that criteria. I hate computers, they suck so much. They promise the world but deliver disappointment and pain.

Stupid macbook.

Since Mac turned intel, their processors suck now. We can no longer say that a Mac processor's speed is actually double what it is.

I used to think it'd be great to have one of those "Top of the Line" gaming PCs with say one of the "Extreme" line of CPUs from Intel (which are extortion IMO), 2 Dual GPU graphics cards, >16GB of memory, Liquid Cooling etc etc.

Then I got sense. :)
