I thought I had this problem solved. but I didn't. 9.10 will only run correctly on my PC is I run Failsafe GNOME. If I don't run failsafe, Terminal Window doesn't show anything but white background and any job that requires a password (synaptic, update manager) causes PC (GNOME?) to crash.
I filed a bug report with the GNOME group and it was rejected on the grounds that I have an UBUNTU problem.
I hope the gurus of UBUNTU and the gurus of GNOME will get together and tell me what I need to do to fix problem.
