I am sometimes use QQ to keep in touch with some of my friends from China, language-pals.. and what not.

But recently, like..half year already. Latest QQ chat software always crash. When I am trying to send a message, it would crash maybe on the 3rd one. If I try to view history, it would crash too.

Anyone here who use QQ? Are you having same problems?

I think what you're experiencing is normal. I don't use QQ, but my girlfriend does. It's one of the biggest piles of crap ever.

It used to work just fine before. I am not sure what they did on the latest version.

This full line applies to me also.
To be avoided.

yes, I tried. but I get this:

尊敬的用户,您的QQ版本已经停止使用,
请到http://hi.qq.com
下载并安装最新的QQ版本。
给您带来不便,敬请谅解!

Dear user, your QQ versions are no longer used,
Go to http://hi.qq.com
Download and install the latest version of the QQ.
Causing inconvenience to you, please understand!

So.. I think right now they allow to connect only from their QQ software

AHH.. Nevermind.. I had to change the client version in Pidgin.... Thanks!

Of course, the problem with Pidgin, is that people can't send files to me (if they want) or do other things.

/facepalm.

I have to laugh at the name of the software though - is it really based on the emote?

I may give Kopete a try on Ubuntu.

I actually used it before, when I was running KDE on Arch, and loved it.

It's based on their attempt to be slightly less blatant in copying ICQ.

Hi, I'm having a tonne of problems with qq also. I wish I could avoid it, but sadly ppl in china don't use anything else!

in pidgin, you can set the protocol version to 2009 (instead of the default), but still, after using it a while, qq deactivates your account. their attempt at forcing you to use their ****** client, which is also crashing on me as well.

any luck getting qq to work on kde? when i enter my details, i get an exclamation mark on my qq account and a description as "unknown", and it never connects.

there's a bit of a cultural diff here. granted, qq is obviously a residual from "oicq". but in chinese speaking countries, qq means "cute-cute", or a kinda chinglish way of pronouncing it anyway. I doubt they have any idea about the emoticon (which is surprising since asians use vertical emoticons)
