So I thought it would be a good idea to install ubuntu again today on an office PC. We use Active Directory so I thought I'd use likewise-open5 to connect to it. Big mistake. The RPC and event log components seem to be hopelessly broken, thus I figured I'd uninstall them and go for the previous version...

If only it were that easy. Both packages are now stuck and CANNOT be uninstalled for some esoteric reason. So far apt-get, aptitude and dpkg -P have failed to work, and I can't install the previous version before getting rid of these troublesome two. Is there a way to "nuke 'em from orbit, just to be sure" or would I have to reinstall the whole system?

Ubuntu 9.10 running on a Pentium-D with 2GB RAM, integrated Intel graphics. And yes I've tried rebooting, that didn't make a difference.

Did you ever solve this? I'm having the same issue now.
