I am having display problems installing ubuntu desktop 9.10 x32 bit version on my old dell latitude laptop. The installation wizard screens flicker and is split in two & is hard to read. I believe Ubuntu does not recognize my laptop's monitor or using some generic display drivers which does not seem to work. Any help on this is much appreciated.

Are you installing from a Live CD? I think there is a "Simple Graphics Mode" for installation that you can get to by pressing F6. The other thing to do is download and burn the Alternate Install CD (http://www.ubuntu.com/getubuntu/downloadmirrors#alternate). This Ubuntu installer uses a text-based installation interface that works more reliably than the Live CD.

Thanks. That did the trick.

Which? Simple Graphics mode, or the Alternate Install CD?
