Trying to install 9.10 (already have XP pro installed but going to get rid of it and run 9.10 as stand alone OS)and when i choose Ubuntu from loader menu i get the Kernal- panic message?? And when I reboot it starts loading then says i have to reboot and load XP and run chkdsk /r and try again which i have done, so then i tried to reformat the HDD using cmd and it can't lock the drive. any suggestions before i go buy a new HDD and start fresh?

Were you installing "side by side", windows and ubuntu on the same machine? Gparted gave you a kernel error?

Sounds like wrong partitioning.
