When installing Ubuntu and forks, there is always written "casper/wmlinuz" on booting.

Who is casper? I have tried working out with one of my linux friends. It is not Linus Torvalds child. Neither is it Mark Shuttleworth (founder of canonical) child.

Why did they call it casper?

It's just a name.
That's like asking "Why did they call the core files of Linux a 'kernel'?"

It is probably some scrip. And is called casper because it is friendly... and ghostly :D

I never saw it, though

Maybe its an inside joke with the devs who created it.

Is this an Ubuntu-specific thing, or did it start with debian?
