For those using KDE, please DO NOT waste your time trying to install catalyst 10.2
due to the new 2D drivers: http://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=news_item&px=Nzk5MQ

For me, kubuntu simply loads up, and stalls at the loading screen becasue of the kwin effects issue.

Yah... found that one out the hard way when I updated my work PC with the new drivers (luckily I did it late on a Friday afternoon). I'm now using the radeonhd driver, sick of the Catalyst rubbish. I don't get composite effects but at least it works and is FAST.

I really get the feeling that ATI/AMD are pinning their hopes on the new open source drivers and really not bothering to put much effort into Catalyst any more.
