I have a very weird problem. I installed Ubuntu 9.10 on a CF card and made sure during the installation to put the bootloader on the root partition of the card. I then set the CF card in my BIOS as the top boot priority.

However, whenever my system tries to boot the card, the screen is blank for awhile, then literally all that is shown on the screen is:

j_
where the '_' is an unresponsive cursor. The system is completely unresponsive at this point, except that it will restart after a few consecutive ctrl+alt+del. Any recommendations?

(If the CF card is not present, my system boots normally)
