I installed 9.1o via 8.04 8.10 9.04 etc and it seems to have gone wrong.
I have tried to run repair installs but they have not worked. I have a machine now that boots to a terminal which doesnt respond and I have to run through all the boot options before I get to a desktop. Can I just wait until the next upgrade to see if it corrects or is a repair install still possible?

I dont want to lose all my setting and installs etc.

Also in firestarter a new connection has appeared called vboxne. I am very suspcious - it wasnt in previous versions and traffic on this connection is anything up to 30KB. I am not on a network. Is this anything to be worried about?

...have you tried re-installing grub?
...as for the vboxne you mentioned, done a bit of googling and can't find its relevance to ubuntu, safe to block it in firestarter i guess.

I will try that

That seems to have benefitted me but vboxne is still there
