View Full Version : [ubuntu] pendrive and ubuntu 9.10 kernel panic after upgrade

February 26th, 2010, 08:57 PM
I had/have ubuntu 9.10 installed on a USB stick (ubuntu-9.10-desktop-i386.iso using pendrive installer) . It was working perfect for months with updates installing smooth until I installed latest updates roughly a week or two ago.
When I boot the system, I get:

Kernel panic -not syncing: VFS: unable to mount root fs on unknown block(104,1)
...and system hangs.

Have been searching for help, but have not been able to find anything helpful. Did try to use ubuntu-9.10-alternate-i386.iso to recover, but couldn't figure out how to chroot the system.

Any advice is greatly appreciated.
