I don't know how to explain this problem.

I had Ubunto 9.04 installed in my Notebook IBM-T41, last month I upgraded to 9.10 and all went well except for an annoying behaviour.

Some messages that shows up display a garbage windows. Some controls (buttons, selection boxes) are not displayed or distorted.
Most weird is that this happens only to profiles that existed before the upgrade, if I create a new user the new desktop does not show any problem.

I think that it must be some change in configuration that is stored in the user profile, but I don't know where to begin the search.

PS. I attached a copy of the desktop showing the garbage message in the upper right corner, it is supposed to read "Connected to wired network."

Can anybody give some hint about how to solve it?
