That article was far from informative. How are they going to do this?

It's great that botnets are getting shut down, but why does Microsoft get to decide which networks are good and which networks are bad?

because no one else had the determination to go to court to win the right to do it?

Well, yeah. I'm just a bit scared of a company with such a large market share having the sole ability/right to do it. I'd be just as skeptical if if was only Canonical. The whole thing would be all the more affective if it was a joint venture.

Then again, it is retty much only Windows machines that get the malware that turns them into a zombie...

well it's not like they just decided to do it and did it. they had to win a court case for the privilege.

Good on em.

I strongly believe all hacked software from MS should be crippled. Yeah, folks would moan, and piracy wouldn't work, but it would stop a lot of people getting spammed/scammed.

Maybe if they hadn't sold such a shoddy product in the first place --

Oops, I think I typed that out loud.

Come on the article isn't about Microsoft going on a network shut down rampage it just won a court approval to shut down a global botnet which is good for them and good for us.
Less spam! Hurray!

That would probably have the side effect of people looking for alternatives. Probably increasing the linux market share which I don't think they would like to do.

Exactly, people use Windows mainly because it's what they're used to. It's the same with Adobe - Photoshop is the most illegally downloaded application, but because so many people use it (legally or otherwise) there are more people who will pay for a real copy.

Piracy isn't all bad :)
