Beginning several weeks ago, I have not been able to open OpenOffice documents via sftp. I am running Ubuntu 9.10 (32-bit) on a laptop with Gnome 2.28.1 and OpenOffice 3.1. After using Nautilus to mount files sftp from a remote server, I can browse the directory and open several file types such as PDFs, but when I attempt to open OpenOffice files such as ods, the program opens with an new, empty file.

I'm not exactly sure what the problem is based off that information, although it leads me to believe it's an OpenOffice bug. Does it work if you copy the files to a local drive and open them from there?

Yes, I can drag a file onto my desktop, edit it, and then cut and paste to overwrite the file on the remote server. (I can also open the same file from another client running Kubuntu, using Konqueror-fish.)
