View Full Version : [ubuntu] Dell Wireless Card Compatability Problems

February 23rd, 2010, 11:45 PM
I have a Dell Inspiron 1545 that runs Windows 7. The problem is that I can't connect wirelessly to the Internet in Ubuntu. In Windows 7, the wireless works just fine, but in Ubuntu, the computer acts almost as though is has no wireless card. I think that my computer needs a driver. I've done a little research, and I tried to install the restricted drivers, but to no avail. Also, I ran the lspci command in Terminal and got a lot of data. Out of all that, this seems to be the relevant part of the output:

09:00.0 Ethernet controller: Marvell Technology Group Ltd. 88E8040 PCI-E Fast Ethernet Controller (rev 13)
0c:00.0 Network controller: Broadcom Corporation BCM4312 802.11b/g (rev 01)

My router has WPA2-PSK encryption, if Ubuntu doesn't support that.
I was a pretty good Windows user, but I am new to Ubuntu.
Please note that I am running Ubuntu off of a bootable flash drive.
If anyone knows how to get my wireless Internet to work, please reply.
