View Full Version : [ubuntu] Package Manager stuck? Error exit status 2

Hey, I'm new to ubuntu and loving it! :D
I've run into a small issue, and I'm hoping you may be able to help.
I was installing the hardware driver for Nvidia when there was an error and it didn't complete the install. From that point on, any time anything is installed (whether through synaptic package manager or ubuntu software center, or wherever), the installation 'fails' even though the newly installed app then seems to work perfectly fine. It's like it keeps coming back to what it previously was not able to install, and then has the same 'error exit status 2'

This is the failure message I get (it's always the same list of python packages at the end):

Try this in a terminal:

sudo dpkg --configure -a

"Applications>Accessories>Terminal"

Try this:

sudo dpkg --force all --remove
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get upgrade

Hmmm? did the first command, and this was the result. Thanks again for your help...

sandy@sandy-laptop:~$ sudo dpkg --force all --remove
[sudo] password for sandy:
dpkg: --remove needs at least one package name argument

Type dpkg --help for help about installing and deinstalling packages ;
Use `dselect' or `aptitude' for user-friendly package management;
Type dpkg -Dhelp for a list of dpkg debug flag values;
Type dpkg --force-help for a list of forcing options;
Type dpkg-deb --help for help about manipulating *.deb files;
Type dpkg --license for copyright license and lack of warranty (GNU GPL) .

Options marked produce a lot of output - pipe it through `less' or `more' !

Ah, sorry.

sudo dpkg --force all --remove python-lxml python-reportlab python-reportlab-accel python-numpy python-gtkmozembed python-uniconvertor

All one line, BTW

Thanks lindex,
I ran into some other troubles with nautilus, so decided to re-install ubuntu.

And that fixed it :)

Thanks for all your help. This forum is awesome!
