I just installed ubuntu on my laptop and it booted up with the login and password screen. I have not given it a login or a password as i just installed it.

What do i do?

You have given a login ... it is required to install ubuntu, as well as an administrator password.

It is obligatory to enter an admin password (to prevent hacking) and username when installing ubuntu, so you probably just forgot you entered them.

A clean install will be the price for your mistake.

the install never asked me for a login or password, EVER.... i just put the cd in and let it install and then the login screen came up....

now what do i do?

like mindfustion said you HAVE to give a password and login name or you cant install ubuntu. this is common in all linux distros

you will have to boot in to the live cd and overwrite the current install.

just remember you password and login name this time :P

Upon giving in your username and password, you can tick off the little option below to require a password and login when booting up the pc, but it is essential to remember your password, as it is impossible to install software if you cannot recollect that password. (:
