massiv blur on the screen

hey there,
i'm a newbie on ubuntu 9.10. one problem: I have a massiv blur on the screen on my laptop. what's wrong and what can I do ?

That screen resolution is VERY small, is there any way you can turn it up? I went to that site and I did not have the weird splotchy images like you do in your screen capture. Another thing is you seem to have weird drop shadows behind your fonts which make them hard to read, that may attribute to the problem.

ok, found one problem:
in my screen resolution settings there are no size for the native resolutio n of 1440x900 . . .
I remeber: I plug'd a second Monitor 19" on the Output. After unplug the resolution was never the same and the good size doesn't see any more . . .

How can I change it ?

ATTENTION: I'm a Newbie under Linux and have problems to know which command in the terminal I must use . . . . so tell it to my like child :-)

I insert a new nativ screen resolution in the xorg conf now it works perfect.
