One question re: the above.

How big does the USB stick need to be? I'm using the ubuntu 9.10 Live download (706mb)

Thanks in advance

1GB as a bare minimum, 2GB better, 4GB do what you want :)

Thanks. I have a 1G and an 8G.

Apologies if this is a silly q but is it possible to partition the 8G (half and half)? Just not sure if you can do that with a USB stick or not.

Cheers

Yes it is (no silly questions, only silly people, sorry silly answers) :D

If you have gparted installed, try using that (its the easiest way with a gui)

Or you could use a live cd

Just identify the location of the drive (e.g. /dev/sdb) and make sure it is unmounted before applying operations (gparted will complain anyway)

www.pendrivelinux.com is a good resource for what you are doing
