View Full Version : What is the most outrageous thing you've seen on a kids TV channel?

I have a nine year old little sister, so obviously Disney Channel and Nickelodeon are on just about every TV in the house.

I've noticed, sometimes they throw in a sex joke or something without actually saying the word, but you an guess what they are referring. I see stuff like this all the time (mostly on Nickelodeon), and my little sister will have no clue what they are talking about, but some children do, and I can't believe they put that type of stuff in a kid's TV show.

Has anyone else seen this happen?
What's the most outrageous thing you've heard?

EDIT: That's the thing, I don't remember the actual joke. I've heard a few of them.

How about you answer your own question first? ;) I don't recall hearing anything like that, but there's been no kids in the house for a while.

I am personally more offended that certain entirely harmless words or gestures are censored while scantly clad 16 year old girls dryhumping whatever set to alluring music and overtly sexually suggestive lyrics is considered acceptable.

Sex isn't scary, you can make fun of it.. even to 9 year olds. You are allowed and encouraged to talk to them about it in a natural way when they ask questions. If you don't, they will learn from Britney Spears (and make you pay for it).

Ahahaha.
I unfortunately live not too far from her. :(

EDIT: I didn't say sex was scary.
But I do have to fully agree with you. Sex shouldn't be so.. compressed? (I think thats the word for it)
It's just a part of life.

The thing is, not everyone thinks like that, and it goes against some people morals. :/

You have to understand that these cartoons and sitcoms are created by adults. And sometimes they like to throw in bits of adult innuendo - which none of the children obviously gets. I have two toddlers and my wife and I laugh to each other when the innuendo pops up.

They've been doing it for years, here are two classic examples:

On "The Little Mermaid"'s original cover, there is a ***** in the castle (google it... or see this [link (http://www.apologitis.com/gr/ancient/eik/sex/coverartmermaid.jpg)]
In "The Lion King" clouds make up the word "SEX". (also google... or read this [page (http://www.snopes.com/disney/info/lionpics.htm)]

Like I said, these are written by adults... obviously very bored adults.

While that has never happened here (sadly, as I would like porn rather than sports on TV.. not a big sports fan). I would be more worried that as a paying customer they were unable to secure their service sufficiently to deliver what I pay for when it's supposed to air. It seems like a pretty basic feature to ask for.. no high def, no surround sound.. the program they see fit to schedule at the time they said it would be there.

I believe the funniest occurance of this kind I have seen here was video tapes going on sale of a kids tv show (I believe it was something with bananas in pyjamas). To save money the company had recorded over some old tapes, but they didn't blank them first. So when you watched past the kids show.. hard core porn. That was definitely a moment of epic fail.

The problem with "children's" progamming, at least here in the US, is that it's become infantile programming. Go find some clips of Lunch with Soupy Sales (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Soupy_Sales#Lunch_with_Soupy_Sales). Now that was a children's show.

I actually wish kids tv was a little more subversive. It was certainly that way when I was a kid. I remember for instance Tommy Boyd on CITV (old British kids tv) trying to explain that Pepe Le Peu wasn't being rude when he kept wanting to 'make love' to the cat. I also remember hints of things in Rainbow (which turned out to be spot on if you've ever seen 'Rude Rainbow').
The thing to remember is kids usually drag an adult along to watch this stuff. It makes sense to give the adults something to occupy them so they're not completely bored by the experience.

I remember one time, while channel surfing, I saw what appeared to be a blow-up-doll on a Disney show. The following conversation then took place:

[to someone on a phone] "I will be there in 10 minutes"

Looks over at doll

[continues] "Make that 20"

No, i dont know the context of the conversation, but even still, thats kind of going to far for a disney show.

The dumbing-down and oversensitive nature of young children's programming.
