I am VERY new to Linux. I downloaded Ubuntu and was expecting a prompt to re-boot or something to see the change. Nothing happened. I am still in Vista. Where did I go wrong?

You probably only downloaded the ISO image. Create a cd from that ISO image and boot with the cd in the computer. If CDROM is before HDD in your BIOS it would boot from the cd where you will have option only to Try Ubuntu running from the cd, Install Ubuntu, etc.

What you download is an ISO file, which is used to burn the installation CD, but it doesn't let you use ubuntu by itself. Open a CD creating program, and use the iso file you downloaded. The program will record the information in a blank CD you insert.
