Hia all.........I am totally new in linux as well as ubuntu..and I can smell the freedom..

Yesterday when I was going to install ubuntu 9.10 on my lappy (acer aspire 5738) it shows nothing on the lcd screen...with a external monitor I found that the os is working nicely.....after a 14 hour war(may be bigger than that...cause my gf got angry with that:confused:)
I resolved that prob...but now my question is with my lappy's config is there any problem can happen in future. I am bit lost...

here's the config:

Can you adjust the display settings from your bios, and if not, from the external monitor and then switch it back over to the default monitor?

How did you sort that problem? If we know that it may help us give you more information on possible future problems.

Actually, I told u that I m totally new to linux.....though i hav solved that prob...

First I attached the external monitor and installed the ubuntu 9.10. Then from the terminal I went to root/grub..
changed its permission(from r to rw)...then added a string "i915.modeset=0" before "quiet splash" in vi editor. saved it...again changed the permission from r to rw.

restarted the machine.......then yappie.............display on the fly...............

I am greatful to annasarp (http://ubuntuforums.org/member.php?u=975458) and bivabasu my friend..

but after that one problem I've noticed that remain unloved that I cant adjast the brightness.........any suggestions??
