hi, i have a small home network on a windows xp machine and a windows 7 machine also with a small home network i can access the 7 machine but when i try to access the server for the xp machine i get the error, can't retrieve share list, how can i fix this problem?

Although I don't have a copy of Win7 and haven't used it much, I've been reading a lot about it having "issues" with Windows Networking/sharing. You will want to read up a little on Samba if you plan on accessing Windows machines from ubuntu (or about any other flavor of Linux).

My personal bet is that Micro$oft has "lightened" the Windows Networking in Win7 like they "lightened" the backward compatibility and full function library out of the serial port drivers in WinXP several years ago.
