Ubuntu Software Center stalling

Ubuntu 9.10

Was installing software via Ubuntu Software Center when the system froze.
After i reset the system & restart the Ubuntu Software Center, it seems to be waiting for some other Software Manager to complete.

Have attached a screenshot.

Don't want to format & reinstall Ubuntu just to get this working.

Appreciate any advise.

Had a similar problem - found this in another thread and it worked for me:

In terminal: sudo dpkg --configure -a
