I'm looking for a MP3 player that can play .ogg's.
And while looking for these a good one on the internet, I came across Ipodlinux (http://ipodlinux.org/Main_Page) and Rockbox (http://www.rockbox.org/twiki/bin/view/Main/IpodPort).
Now I've heard that iPodLinux doesn't play .ogg's at perfectly. But since I only need a music player Rockbox might be better suited for me.
So has anyone tried Rockbox on iPod?
Is it any good, how good does it play .ogg's?

ogg decoding on the ipod seems to be a hardware issue--ipods don't have the processing power necessary to do ogg decoding in real time.

Rockbox works very well, a bit hard to setup and tagcache(ID3 database) is not perfect but my nano play ogg's flawleslly :).

from everything i've heard Rockbox has been a gem of a tool to many many iPod fans.
I'd rather just get a player and donate my money to someone who actually supports open formats though. iPod nor iTunes has support for OGG or FLAC.
Coolest part about Rockbox, IMO, is that it allows for gapless playback. Something iPod doesn't have out of the box (if i'm not mistaken)
I may sound stupid bt what do you mean by gapless playback?
And yes Rockbox is absolutly great :D.

gapless playback is just what it sounds like--ordinarily, you'll have a short "gap" after the player has finished one file and will begin the next. Gapless players get rid of this--very very useful for recordings that are not broken down into individual "songs."
Rockbox is great, I agree, but it's also under heavy development; if you don't enjoy the thought that some features might be broken when you get it (e.g.: my build still chokes on high-bitrate ogg vorbis files, but is fine for slightly-lower bitrate ones) then you should think twice before going for it.
I would just as soon recommend that you get a player that did ogg natively.

I have tried out Rockbox and it is great! Gapless playback, hombrew games and software, support for MP3, AAC (unprotected) I think, OGG, and even FLAC. As far as development goes, it is under heavy development, but it is pretty stable to use and you can easily update it, plus, it is expected to be finished in Novemember.

I use rockbox on my ipod mini. It is pretty good, obviously the ogg support is excellent. It occasionally (like about once a day) crashes on me, and the battery life is less than with the Apple firmware, but for me, it's worth it.

I use Rockbox on my 30GB Video iPod. It works very well. It plays formats such as Vorbis and FLAC without a hitch. And I live being able to skin it!

I have tried EVERYTHING to get gapless playback on my 5g. I tried special gapless tags with lame, ogg, playing with the crossfade settings, nothing seems to work. Can someone please help me figure this gapless thing out, its been driving me nuts! Its the only thing missing in my otherwise perfect transition from the apple firmware.

I got Rockbox on my iPod Video 60GB installed. Almost... everything works fine except of the (very) important Tag Database function.
When I try to "initialize now" the Tag Cache it just shows a message and then on doesn't do anything (the disk isn't working - no bzzz sound!).
Anybody got this issue... and maybe fixed?
Greetings!
