Just wondering if this is possible.

Are you talking about your new pc ?

Most of your settings will be found in /home.

Copy this folder and move to new pc.

Thanks a lot Howefield. Actually I wanted to switch my machine from Mint back to Ubuntu.

Your reply was very useful for googling more info.

There's actually a feature in the LiveCD that detects compatible pre-existing OSs on the installation machine and allows you to import settings - pretty neat.

Nevertheless, I'm starting from scratch (just because I enjoy it - so cathartic!) and I'm putting /home in a separate partition so I can chop and change.

Next question...

Is there a way to bundle downloaded software from the repos etc? So that you don't have to trawl through them finding the stuff you installed?

It'd be nice to have all the media codecs and stuff from the awesome "Comprehensive Multimedia & Video Howto" (http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=766683) thread without having to go through all the steps again...

have you taken a look at:

ReMasterSys (http://www.geekconnection.org/remastersys/remastersystool.html)?

don't know if it's in the official repositories, but it might be useful.

Wow! That looks awesome. Thanks a lot for that. The program and the programmer both seem really nice.
