Frozen Curser

Acer Aspire One has been running Ubuntu 9.10 Netbook Remix all OK until recent foul shutdown involving a usb hard drive. I've cleared that problem and can boot into home page OK but the curser is frozen!
I have tried various Xorg and GDM reconfigure commands but it remains a problem. Any help would be welcome.

Solved!

Blue Fn +F7 returns the use of the mouse pad. Phew what a nuisance!

Maybe of some use when typing and mouse pad gets in the way.
