Hello everyone,

as some of you might know, there is currently no R18+ rating for video games in Australia, while there is one for movies.

I call on everyone to sign this petition on petitiononline.com to change this situation: http://www.petitiononline.com/need4r18/petition.html

It is adresses to Micheal Atkinson. I know it probably won´t help, but please, sign the petition if you support the idea, and even more importantly, spread the wordt about it as much as you can on forums, twitter etc. I want the existence of this petition to get into the news. You can also sign it if you do not live in Australia. Please do.

To be clear: I did not make this petition, but I do want everyone to sign it.

That petition is pointless.
Give feedback on the government's R18 discussion paper

Do both, PLEASE. I am going to try to get some politicians to vote for this petition as well, and that might help :)

Yeah, there have been lots of petitions already.. (and mostly more respectable than petitionsonline, sorry..) it's kind of pointless. The only way this is likely to change is through voting in elections.

mmm I like that!
no 18+ games. I hope they implement this in Canada as well!
I hope they will do this with music and movies, its safer for our kids cuz they are influenced by all that crap that 18+ content offers.
I will recommend this to my mayor, thanks!

This petition is in favour of an 18+ rating, Sudeoer ;)

Good luck with your proposal. I would like to remind you that the only action the Canadian government has recently taken with regard to the video game industry is creating huge taxmoney-paid support projects, such as special college campuses for game design and programming courses, and the creation of entire "digital economy cities" focusing on game production.
Don´t forget the nice tax breaks the industry receives.
Because of all the measures taken, Canada now has one of the biggest, and still growing, game industries in the world.
The government is supporting this in every way imaginable.
You have a snowball´s chance in hell to change this, and calling your mayor is not going to change that.

Adults should be able to play whatever they want, that´s what age ratings are for, you know?

Good luck trying to change your country´s policies. It is NOT going to happen :p

I'm not going to sign this petition because I do not agree with the idea of age-rating video games; especially a rating that will make it illegal for a 17 year old to play a game that his 18 year old friend is allowed to have. It makes no sense and just panders to those who would censor the world if they could, and those who think it's the government's job to look after their kids.

What problem exactly is this 18+ rating supposed to solve? What terrible thing is currently happening because under-18s can play any game they like? How exactly will this rating stop kids from playing these games in the future?

What you are suggesting isn't actually happening. Because Australia doesn't have an R18 rating, any games that are too violent etc to be classified at MA15+ are either banned in Australia or have all their gory details edited out.
