9.10 Freezes When Trying To Install

I have a Sony Vaio PCG-K23 and when I try to perform any operation after booting it (EX: Try Ubuntu, Install Ubuntu, Check CD for Defects) it freezes. Anybody know why?

same here but not gateway and its only ubuntu as can install other flavours Had crash & Ubuntu will not reinstall on my p/c
p/c crash and at first i indications were that it was a hdd problem so changed hdd and tried to fresh install karmic 64 "won't install" can install anything else though presently using suse 11.2 but how i miss my karmic ubuntu please help! somebody please help
