my best friend has Ubuntu 9.10 installed on his external hard drive so he can boot into Ubuntu from his external. i wanted to do the same thing. i tried 3 different times to install it. here is what im doing:
i put the Ubuntu iso image on my flash drive using unetbootin
i partition my external hard drive, to make 200 gigs of unallocated space
i boot into Ubuntu from my flash drive
i click to install Ubuntu to my external hard drive
i click to install Ubuntu to the most amount of continuous space
i do all the setting and everything
it gets to installing but every time it gets to 95%, which is installing the grub boot loader, the installer just quits

ive had my friend over to try and help me but he cant figure it out. he tried installing Ubuntu how i did but it quit at 95%. he went online and found a grub boot loader download and installed it to my external. he tried to boot into Ubuntu from my external but there was an error. it said something like grub boot loader file not found.

what should i try to do? i really want to use Ubuntu

Thanks,
Austin
