I scored an HP 8510p laptop on craigslist, and installed Ubuntu 9.04. It has the ATI HD 2600 M76 with the HP subsystem 30c5. I downloaded and installed the fglrx ATI driver. In general, I'm pretty happy with this machine: big screen, good resolution, fast (Core 2 Duo), 2 GB of RAM, 160 GB HD, and the wireless fired up as soon as I downloaded the Broadcom driver. My first remaining problem is that I have the display set up for four desktops, but Gnome only shows up on the first one; there are no task bars on the top or bottom, and nothing happens when I right- or left-click anywhere on the desktop. I cannot for the life of me find a reference on this forum for that problem, nor can I find any sort of switch on Compiz Manager or ??? that has anything to do with Gnome. Can someone tell me what I'm missing?

Thanks in advance!
