I'm running a Sony Vaio PCG-K23 and trying to install Ubuntu Dekstop 9.10. I'm trying to install it and if I choose 'Try Ubuntu without any change to your computer' or 'Install Ubuntu' the screen just freezes and it remains like this. I download the 32bit architecture using BitTorrent.
Thanks

You ISO image file could have some issues. Please try to check data integrity using the instructions given in https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BurningIsoHowto

I actually had a similar problem wile installing Xubuntu on an old windows xp machine. In my case it would go throught the initial reboot but it wouldn't get to a point where I could actually do anything. It would just show the background. I finally just booted from the disk and went from there.
Are you booting from the disk already, or from a previously installed OS?

Did you try burning the iso image to another disk, and booting from that?

I guess that means you either go to wall-mart (insert local equivalent), or panic.;)

I can't go to Wally World. Why don't you just copy all the files on your Ubuntu disk and upload them to MediaFire for me. ;)

The iso files on the Ubuntu download page works without any issues. Do you have a usb drive lying around ?
