magic quotes

Hi,

having just spent several hours driving myself nuts with mysql_real_escape_string can the DEV's PLEASE have magic_quotes_gpc default to 'off'.

I know it is due in php 5.3, but they've been telling us not use them for years !!!

The hosting server has them turned off - it's just my new lamp installation via tasksel on 10.04 that had them turned on, so it should be no big deal !!

thanks for turning them off, I don't suppose there a chance of letting us 'users' know about the default php.ini that runs production mode & the development one ?

The closest I have to a set of instructions is the last post here --> http://forum.phillw.net/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=4

IDK if there is an easier method.
