OK, this is really confusing me...
I have written the Alternate 9.10 CD.
If I create a Virtual Box machine and boot from the ISO or from the CD I created I get a install menu with the F4 option where I can choose CLI only.
If I now take that exact same CD and stick it in the drive connected to an old EPIA-M I get a different install menu without the F4, but says hit Tab to edit menu.
Why?
