I did a fresh install of Ubuntu 9.10 and I'm having some issues with it for some reason. First I keep getting this pop up

An error occurred while loading or saving configuration information for evolution-alarm-notify. Some of your configuration settings may not work properly.

Failed to contact configuration server; some possible causes are that you need to enable TCP/IP networking for ORBit, or you have stale NFS locks due to a system crash. See http://projects.gnome.org/gconf/ for information. (Details - 1: Failed to get connection to session: Failed to connect to socket /tmp/dbus-rB4h1fcOrf: Connection refused)

Also when I tried using the USB Startup Disk Creator I will get a checksums does not match. I tried using a LiveCD and a new ISO and it doesn't work, but I have no problem with Kubuntu. Anyone know anyways to fix these please, its driving me nuts and even more nuts not having Ubuntu 9.10 on my flash drive instead of Kubuntu 9.10.
