I just loaded Ubuntu 9.04 (plan on updating once I'm done) as a separate partition on my computer. But right away it is asking me for a user name and password. Is their a default user name and password? I never had a chance to set my own up. If not, how can I bypass that so I can complete my install process?

Were asked to enter a user name and a password during the installation? That would be what it is asking for now.

no I wasn't, that's why I'm confused.

I know it's a dumb question, but are you sure you weren't asked? I haven't seen an installer so far that wouldn't ask you to create at least one user.

actually yeah it did, but I always use the same userID and password but it is saying it is incorrect. I think I will have to reinstall?

If you forgot your username or password, read this: http://www.psychocats.net/ubuntu/resetpassword

that worked thank you. One more thing I'm hoping you can help me with. I have split screen with a nvidia geforce 7300 LE card, but it is not working right. Both screens show exactly the same thing. Its not split its just double. What should I do?

Are you now booting up successfully and with graphics working properly?

yes but my split screen is not working right. I basically have two monitors doing the same thing. No splits.

I haven't set up dual screens, can't help you. Since it doesn't match the thread title you might want to start a new thread...
