I just wanted to make a post here in the Ubuntu community about the progress of my band, Power Pirate. We are 15-17 years old, and are completely DIY. We have two song in iTunes, completely home recorded and produced, and have been interviewed on NBC (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f8NbIQa9zNE). I use Ubuntu frequently, and sported both a Ubuntu lanyard and sweatshirt during many of the weekend's events.

You can see me walking around with the Ubuntu sweatshirt in some of these photos on our website (http://www.power-pirate.com/photos/NAMM%20in%20California%20-%20January%2014-16,%202010/gallery.html).

We received enough votes in this (US) nationwide battle of the bands, called SchoolJam USA. The finals took place at the winter NAMM Show in Anaheim, CA, where music equipment merchants, industry professionals, and professional musicians come together every year to see the new products to be released for the new year. Power Pirate was the only band at the California finals representing DC.

We won third place overall, out of over 200 bands who applied. For this, our local school music programs get $1000 to spend on music gear. I won the prize for best keyboardist, and Emily, our guitarist won best guitarist. We both received new instruments.

I ran into many people who commented on my Ubuntu sweatshirt, and everyone had positive things to say. What a great community.
