I am very happy running Ubuntu 9.10 (Karmic Koala) on my aging desktop but am i the only one who feels let down by the likes of Google?

For instance, when is Google going to bring out a Linux compatible version of it's voice and video chat program if ever?

I believe Empathy can do voice and video chat on the GTalk protocal. (I could be wrong, I have never tested it.)

Probably never.

You can however make a voice/video call in Pidgin to XMPP/Google Chat clients.

Probably never. So it will never work on Google Chrome OS.

Google themselves are promoting other clients for support on other OSes (at least at the present time):

Do you know the timeframe for release of google chat for ChomeOS? I don't think so... pidgin and other clients at least provide some kind of functionality now - which helps the OP.

No need to be all hardcore Mr. Anger. :p

I suspect Chrome will be the time that Gtalk gets video and voice chat.

See the "Voice calls to other Google Talk users" column.

Anger? I'm not angry. I just don't like to use smiles so my sense of humor is not apparent at the internet.

Well, it's based on the open XMPP protocol, so as soon as XMPP voice & video chat is supported by an IM client, it should work with GTalk too.
