You don't want to spend another 50-60 USD on a GTS 250 graphics card? It has 256-bit DDR3 instead of 128-bit.

I used to have one, and it worked great.

Though it is possible to enable the decommissioned cores, its not guaranteed to work. That's why they were disabled in the first place, because they were deemed to be below the standard for quality control. If you really want four cores then just buy a processor with four cores that you know are on par. Cheers!

I only use single core computers with 1 GB of RAM or less. I have no idea how 2.8 Ghz Dual Core with 2 GB of RAM isn't good enough.

So yeah, good job. You're sure to never need another computer so long as you (and it) live.

You might want to order some punctuation at the same time.

+1

Most speed issues are a PEBKAC (problem exists between keyboard and chair) ;) Learn how to strip stuff you don't need. The rig in my sig is my most powerful computer, and it does everything I need. Most of the time I use an older PIV OCd from 2.8 to 3.4Ghz with ~400Mb of RAM. I know full Gnome would be a pig on it, so I use Crunchbang instead. Lighter, and quicker :)

I understand though that sometimes, power is needed :) Best of luck with the build :)

The term "good enough" is relative and subjective. In some practices a 16 core Opteron workstation with 32GB of memory is not "good enough" for the task at hand. If all you want to do is write text files to a floppy disk then a 486 is "good enough" for that.
