I have a question about something I noticed using a bootable USB startup device. I remember a few months ago, I was using a bootable thumb drive of Ubuntu 9.04 to recover grub after installing another OS. I remember that every time i restarted the computer with the thumb drive in, I lost all the data from the previous session. I had to re-input my passwords in firefox, and in the terminal it didn't have my previous commands. But...

Just yesterday I was doing the same thing (with 9.10) after installing a faulty version of Gnome Desktop, and after restarting a couple times back into the Thumb drive, i noticed it saved some of my user data from the previous session (passwords in firefox, and history in the terminal).

I was really loving that, is the bootable usb device supposed to save that data? Can it save new files and everything to the file system? I guess there's only one way to find out.
