I have a Sony vgn-fz320e with windows 7 ultimate 32-bit, the burned copy of ubuntu i used will not boot when i try to partition my system.

i get a "windows error" when it boots.

I burned at 8x speed to a cd and it's all on the cd.

Are there any problems you guys think might be the cause for me being unable to boot the disc?

maybe u could try booting from usb if your bios suported it, i booted and install from usb a lot and it works no problems try using a program called u net bootin thats what i used ant it works great for booting linux.

a 1 gig usb thumb drive will do fine. ^_^

oh and just in case not all thum drives will boot proberply it just depends on how the manufactuer makes them so try using multipal thumb drives if you run into problems with the one u use first,...or second,...or etc...

u net bootin: download link below..

when u first turn on your comp you will see a (usually) a black screen of some sort and it will only be there for a couple of seconds or so and if you look you should see some keys on the screen like F9 or Esc on some computers keep restarting your comp untill you figeur out how to edit your bios

[it might look like something similar to this. [IGNORE the red arrow in pic]

[or this]:IGNORE this arrow too.

BOOT below
http://z.about.com/d/pcsupport/1/0/E/2/-/-/biosbootmenu-remdevices.jpg

find somthing in your bios that says Boot and see if u can change the boot order and look for boot from usb or Removable device and make sure its the first one in the list if u dont see boot from usb in your boot order selection then your bios dont support boot from usb.

and me personly i wouldent partion it first i would install vista or whatever verson of windows you have format the hole drive in vista/windows install it and then install ubuntu.

and click install side by side then select how much you want ubuntu to take up by moveing the bottom bar left or right.

With win7 it is better to use the win7 tools to shrink its partition, so you can reboot win7 several times to make sure it is ok with the change in size. It often wants to run checkdisk or other things to fully recognize the change. Houseclean, defrag and resize all within windows first.

Did you burn the CD as an ISO not copy the ISO to the CD. If you look at the CD with the windows browser you should see many files and partitions, not one large ISO file.

If you do not have CD listed as first boot you should be able to select it as a one time boot with f12 or another key that the BIOS load lists.
