Ye there are quite a few. :) welcome

Take a look at our wiki (http://wiki.ubuntu-za.org/Wiki_Home) and launchpad (https://edge.launchpad.net/~ubuntu-za).

The forums can be quite but the mailing lists are pretty active. See the wiki for details on the mailing lists.

Yeah i am on the mailing list from a few months back. Work got in the way a bit so i wasn't to active on that. I also did some Afrikaans translations as well.

I was just wondering how active the JHB group was with launch parties and the like.

They have been having release parties.

Just a reminder, but with the internet, physical location nearly becomes obsolete. It *is* nice however to attend some physical events and meetings.

:( no physical meetups are aways more cool. Wasn't your release party last year much nicer then this years one?

I find the physical meets also cater to people that aren't as "geeky" and don't sit on irc/forums.

Yeah i think eye balling the people you work with on projects once in a while is actually a very nice touch... makes you remember your human :)

We recently had an ubuntu hour (http://wiki.ubuntucom/Hour) in stellenbosch (http://wiki.ubuntu-za.org/Ubuntu_Hour/StellenBosch/20100205). or on my blog (http://blog.smartcube.co.za/2010/02/05/stellenbosch-ubuntu-hour-report-back/).

Feel free to do the same thing in JHB it is a very cool and very simple thing to get done doesn't need to be complicated or any thing fancy just soemething that fits into your daily live.

I was reading up on that last night in the news and event section :) we really need to look at doing something similar in JHB. I hate being the only Linux fan boy that I know...

Drop into IRC and you will meet a few others.

There is also a pretty active #glug.za on freenode with other linux users not only Ubuntu.

Are there really no ubuntu people in Joburg? I can't believe that. Isn't this the home of the word "Ubuntu". My goodness, what a contradiction. Anyway, Ubuntu and patience doesn't go together and not many people have that here in Joburg including myself. I've tried ubuntu many times before but find myself back in the gripping claws of windows because I don't have the time, energy and inclination to get ubuntu working. I just realised that I will have to do a dual boot and when I'm bored work on getting ubuntu to function properly bit by bit. Will now have to go out and buy an external dvd drive and install windows 7 utlimate but I will be back because I want to use ubuntu. Cheers for now.
