Are Open Office and the Gimp to be scrapped in the final version of Lucid? That's what this article from Libération (http://http://www.ecrans.fr/Ubuntu-OpenOffice-vire-d-office,9144.html) would have us believe. I haven't found any other news about this, but perhaps I'm missing something.

It couldn't possibly be a furphy, could it?

The OpenOffice part only applies to Ubuntu Netbook Edition.

It'll still be in the repo's. So you can download it yourself.

Lucid will ship OpenOffice version 3.2.1, but MAY not include GIMP:

OpenOffice dropped from netbook edition:

I don't know what I'm going to do with that Me Menu....it will be utterly useless for me.

UNR is becoming more and more like Google Chrome OS by the minute.....

Hardly.

Oh, yeah? The very fact that UNR will use Google Docs instead of OO.o is making UNR smell like it is.

Last I checked, Chrome OS only consisted of a browser. UNR (now UNE) still has just about everything the standard Ubuntu comes with. Not even close to Chrome OS.

At least they do have one thing in common: A tabbed interface. The UNR GUI has tabs instead of windows, just like Chrome OS.

Oh, and the tabs in UNR can't even be pinned!
