View Full Version : Google Docs, a decent replacement?

I love Google Docs, for its sheer simplicity. I know that where ever I go, so long as I have Internet, I can access my files. I don't need all the surplus features of Microsoft Office, and getting Office and OO.o to play nicely together can be a nightmare.
With Google Docs, its all so simple. You can even download your files in a variety of different types.
So what do you think? Is it a decent replacement to a full office suite? Is it where we should be moving to, working more in the cloud? Or is it just a useful but novelty online service? :)

Isn't it possible to use Google Docs while you're offline and then when you connect it just syncs your offline data to the cloud?

+1
Mobile Internet is expensive, and I don't really trust clouds given the T-Mobile-Microsoft fiasco a while back.
Plus, have you SEEN Google's EULA? It says that they have rights to WHATEVER is submitted through their services. I don't know about you, but if I come up with some amazing Nobel prize winning theory on astrophysics written in Google Docs, I WANT the credit and rights to it.

I love it but it would be much much much better if it only supported pages and format/style editing/adding.

Seems to be a decent way to go though, cheaper low power computers, with most applications running online, letting someone else crunch the numbers

I hate the entire "cloud" paradigm.
