We got new cat today.... And I can't think of a good name... Can I get some ideas for all of you?

It is she. Maybe you can recommend me some kind of geek or linux/open-source name?

http://img717.imageshack.us/img717/9544/newcat.th.jpg (http://img717.imageshack.us/i/newcat.jpg/)

What do you think could fit her?

It seems like she will be the boss in this house (we have 2 other cats and they are afraid of her....)

Debra (after Debra Murdock, the first half of the Debian name, with Ian being the second half)

Boudica (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boudica). That or Stinky.

If you're really obsessed with the Linux/open-source aspect, you could just go with Cat (What? I'm talking about the concatenate terminal command.)

I just took the photo in our bathroom. We had to clean her a bit and I took a shoot at that time.

Lucid would be nice, about our last cat who died had almost the same name.

Bagheera sounds like a nice name.

I am also thinking of some mythological names for her, that could fit her.

I'd prefer to call my cat something you can shout when she falls off the building and finish it before she hits the ground.

On a side note, I once heard about a Romanian guy who named his dog the Romanian equivalent of "blowjob"

In that case you'd never get to finish her name.
Example: if her name is Kitty, you'd scream Kittyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy until *BAM* :)

What about Lucy? As in "Lucid"?

Considering that the Lucid Lynx is also a cat, this is the perfect choice.

*pulls himself back together* Anyway, back to the thread topic...

A more Linux-nerdy name could be "split", seeing as how split needs cat.

(And, genuinely, I can't believe "Alan Shearer: My Illustrated Career" actually exists.)

Nice looking cat, please always treat her like a cat and not a cute little human to be scolded or spoiled. You could call her Apropus which is nearly linux. Or just Linux. Or distro ( no..for some reason that sounds male, don't know why, so does grep, odd). Helena, which is mythological and the name of the latest linux mint has a pleasant sound. No "s" in it either, a letter cats don't much like, plus it's a fairly hygenic word to be said over the dinner table should you ever have the sort of guests who spray when they speak. When you've had lots of suggestions you could try them all and see if she reacts more to any of them. Reacts as in reacts well, don't want a name that makes her run away or go for the throat of whoever says it of course. Not to long a name either, life isn't easy for a cat called "The Ubuntu Forums Community Cafe" No matter how honoured we'd all feel, it just wouldn't be right.

then you could call her Catfe for for short...

Just in case anyone is getting the wrong idea...
My girlfriend and I have a cat called Luke that we brought home from the animal shelter where he had been for four years, from the time he was still a quite small kitten.
When he got here, he wouldn't allow anyone to touch him, which is also the main reason why he was in the shelter for so long. He was so scared of people that he hid all the time.
Now, about 2 and a half years later, he is convinced that it is his flat, that we are here to open tins of food and the balcony door for him, and stroke and brush him and play with him at his convenience. He has even been on my girlfriend's lap once or twice.

Very cute cat. I've always named my pets for the character they express or what was a distinctive feature.
Yogi, a Black Labrador that's always in trouble
Cotton, a fuzzy soft pup
Bubba, stray neighborhood thug cat
Stubbs, No tail for this cat.
Wait and name your pet for what it expreses or inspires. A good friend had a cat named "Alpo"
