I have KDE 4.4
Gimp, and all my gtk apps look like doo doo. :P
I installed all the engines, I've gone to the system settings and changed the gtk to qtcurve.
No luck!
What do I do?

1) Search your package manager for qtcurve-gtk2 and qtcurve-kde4 and install them. I say search because they may have different names in kubuntu
What happens if you go to System Settings --> Appearance --> GTK Styles and fonts
Mine is showing qtcurve but take your pick from the dropdown menu
2) System Settings --> Appearance --> GTK Styles and fonts and pick Qt4.
In both cases you'll have to restart GTK apps for the effect to take place
