I want to get g++, QT4, and jedit on a USB flash drive to use on a Mac I'm going to have to use for a few hours a day over the next few weeks on which I won't be able to install anything. I don't know anything about macs though (although my uncle talks about running linux things on them) and I also have never tried hand-orgainizing my programming tools since I just get them out of the repository, so I'm kind of lost. What do I do?

Linux programs will not run on OS X, I think you're pretty much toast.

If you install Xcode and X11 on OS X (both available on the install disk under "Optional installs" or available from Apple's website), you'll have g++ and QT4. Jedit runs on OS X, if my googling serves me right.

I think you can install Jedit with Fink http://fink.sourceforge.net/

You could always install Ubuntu on a flash drive, add the programs you want, then use them that way.

make two USB drives, make one into a bootable USB to boot the computer up into ubuntu, and on the other drive, save your files and settings.
