What can I do to make flash (Youtube, for example) videos not run at a crawl with Ubuntu? In Windows they run perfectly well, so it must be some sort of incompatibility, but I would love to get it working...

Ubuntu 9.10
Core2Duo 2.0Ghz
2gb RAM
Intel GMA 4500HD

Any ideas?

See the Flash Optimization section of Firefox optimization and troubleshooting thread (http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1193567). but don't expect miracles.

You shouldn't be experiencing many problems with a Core 2 Duo, although it will use a lot of CPU cycles.

One quick thing to try is disable desktop effects.

System>prefs>appearance>visual effects> set it to none.

Also right click on top panel and add the applet CPU frequency scaling.

Then left click it and set the cpu governor to performance.
